Play Lock saves battery by turning screen off while game is running in background. When you need to have the game opened, and it does some automated job (like farming in Ragnarok M) or you need to walk around in augumented reality games (like Pokemon GO), then you can turn the screen off and save battery from phone's screen usage. It really works!
Play Lock saves at least 2 times more battery than built-in Pokemon GO battery saver! Why? Because Play Lock really turns the screen off and Pokemon GO just shows black screen, and even on AMOLED screens it's the same - read the science on XDA-developers site
Or in short "Displays also consume power just by being turned on — the display driver becomes active and ready to send and receive signals from the SoC to the thin-film transistors."
After you lock the phone with Play Lock, you need to cover the top of phone's screen with your hand and then the screen is really turned off with the help of the proximity sensor. Unfortunatelly we cannot turn screen off when not in pocket, and this is a security limitation in Android.
Yes, Play Lock hides software navigation buttons and even can lock hardware Home, Back, Recent buttons, so you do not have to worry that your phone will get unlocked while game is locked in your pocket. Play Lock is the only app that can lock all keys and statusbar! For physical Home, Back buttons to be locked you should enable "Lock Hardware Buttons" in Play Lock settings.
In Auto mode Play Lock will only start (show the notification for locking) when you enter preselected games. Screen is only turned off when you cover it, like when put in pocket. The black overlay is useful for devices with OLED screens, but turning screen off by covering it works on all devices. Also make sure you have the setting enabled inside Play Lock preferences.
This cannot be true, as in Android OS always the screen is the component that uses most of the battery. GPS is working with Play Lock on and with screen off, but for Pokemon GO it is possible on some devices to observe this problem. Obviously this is a limitation of your phone, so there is not much we can do.
In Play Lock the floating lock button is not enabled in Manual mode, but should be visible in Auto mode. If it is missing go to Play Lock settings and enable "Floating lock visible".
